The 21st TIFF Opening Ceremony was held on Oct. 18, 2008 at the Roppongi Hills Screen 7. The venue was filled with stars and cineastes, which appeared at the Green Carpet Ceremony. The Chairman Tom Yoda announced the opening of the ceremony. The Prime Minister Taro Aso gave a congratulatory speech and following the introduction of the International Competition Juries, the team of the RED CLIFF Part I made their greetings and the TIFF’s Opening Film, RED CLIFF Part I was screened thus making it the climax of the day.

Message from Yoshino Kimura
I am most grateful for this opportunity to be appointed as the Film Ambassador for the 21st TIFF. It is a great honor to be inaugurated as the first ambassador. TIFF has engaged in a variety of activities underway with Mr. Yoda, the new chairman, I sincerely believe that the endeavor will be a tremendous success. I hope to contribute to the festival in some small way.

"TIFF DAILY NEWS" is a tabloid size newspaper fully loaded with information to enjoy the film festival.
Once the newspaper is circulated, there will be no additional printing, thus making it a rare items. Why not collect all the issues during the film festival and make it your TIFF memorabilia.

This is the information for those guests who are visiting the Opening Event at the Roppongi Hills Arena and Keyakizaka Street on Oct. 18 (Sat) at 16:30. Please note that there are seats at the Green Carpet Stage in Roppongi Hills Arena, but in case the number of applicants exceeds the quota on the day of the event, the numbered tickets will be passed out to the participants to restrict the admission.

However, you are welcome to watch the event standing in the Arena or by the Green Carpet road along the Roppongi Keyakizaka Street without the need of numbered tickets.
