Andrew Stanton's WALL・E will screen as a closing film for the 21st edition of Tokyo International Film Festival!

Andrew Stanton was born 1965 in Boston Massachusetts, U.S.A. Graduated from California Institute of the Arts. He joined the Pixar Animation Studios in 1990. He directed Finding Nemo in 2003, which recorded a world box-office success. He was an executive producer for Ratatouille which won an Academy Award for Feature Animation. His Finding Nemo was screened as the closing film in the 16th edition of the Tokyo International Film Festival and was a guest as well WALL・E will be his 2nd closing film with TIFF.

The new film, WALL・E, from Walt Disney Pictures and Pixar Animation Studios, distributed in Japan by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, Japan is a grand fantasy adventure animation.

In a distant, but not so unrealistic future, where mankind has abandoned earth, a garbage collecting robot, WALL・E, has been left to clean up the mess for 700 long years.
One day, Eve, a sleek reconnaissance robot appears before WALL・E in solitude.

WALL・E will be screened as a closing film in Tokyo International Film Festival on October 26 (Sun).

『RED CLIFF』 to open the 21st Tokyo International Film Festival

“Red Cliff” distributed by Toho-Towa and Avex Entertainment has been determined to open the 21st edition of the Tokyo International Film Festival. The greatest action-adventure epic in Asian history has been completed as a superb film with an international flavor. “Red Cliff” has become a major block-buster in various Asian countries.
John Woo is an internationally and critically acclaimed Chinese film director and producer. Red Cliff features Tony Leung, Takeshi Kaneshiro, Zhang Fengyi, Chang Chen, Zhao Wei, Hu Jun, Shido Nakamura, and Chiling Lin.
Tokyo International Film Festival aspires to become widely recognized as the world’s international film festival by selecting such trend recognizing film with a truly international quality.

What's New This Year! : Green Carpet Welcome

Green Carpet Welcome

TIFF will throw a Green Carpet Welcome on the opening day at Roppongi Keyakizaka Street with a hope of conveying the message of “Ecology = Preservation of Earth’s Environment.” Carpet will be manufactured from recycled plastic bottles to reduce burden on earth.

Introducing the newly formed natural TIFFto our program

Living up to its ecological theme, 21st TIFF will launch a new section carrying underlying messages which hold an emphasis on “coexistence of human and nature.” Rather than tackling the problems head on, the section will convey messages on “Global Environmental Issues” by screening films that examine relations between men and nature from various angles.

Cannes, May 17th, 2008-Members of the film industry and press attended the Japan Party co-hosted by Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) and TIFFCOM at the Hotel Majestic Barriere in Cannes.

Over 500 participants were on hand as Tatsumi “Tom” Yoda made his first international appearance as newly appointed chairman of TIFF, introducing the “ecology” theme for the upcoming 21st festival, which is to take place from Oct.18th-26th.

The well-known Japanese entertainment executive Tatsumi “Tom” Yoda is taking on a new challenge as a chairman of the Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF).

Tom Yoda’s appointment was announced at the TIFF's annual meeting of the festival’s board of directors held on March 31st, 2008. He will serve as a new TIFF chairman for the coming three years, following the previous chairman Tsuguhiko Kadokawa.

The 21st edition of the prestigious International Film Festival will take place in Tokyo, the Japanese capital, during October 18th thru 26th. While the affiliated TIFFCOM film market, made its launch in the year 2004, is scheduled for October 22nd thru 24th.

Tom Yoda was born on May 27, 1940, in Japan’s Nagano Prefecture. After graduating from Tokyo's Meiji University with business management degree, he joined Osada Electric Co. in 1963 and later joined Sansui Electric.

After leaving Sansui Electric in 1988, Yoda established Thomas Yoda Limited (later renamed as T.Y. Limited Inc.) and entered into the entertainment-content business by taking an executive position at the rising Tokyo-based record label, Avex, where he assumed the role of chairman of the board / CEO for a decade before departing from Avex in 2004.

Tom Yoda is currently chairman of the board of Tokyo-based film distributor / production company Gaga Communications Inc., chairman / CEO of T.Y. Limited Inc., chairman / CEO of Dreamusic Inc., as well as being a member of the board of directors of motion pictures theatrical operator, T-Joy Co. Ltd.

Since May 2007, Yoda has served as a director of the Japan Video Software Association and also as deputy chairman of the Japan International Contents Festival’s executive committee. He also served as vice chairman of the executive committee of the 2007 Japan-China Culture and Sports Exchange Year.

Yoda has been a director of the Visual Industry Promotion Organization since December of 2004. He has also been a member of the Japan Business Federation's board of directors since February of 2004 and chairman of the subcommittee on entertainment and content of the federation's committee on industrial affairs since July of 2003.

Yoda was also a chairman of the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ) from March of 2003 until August of 2004, chairman and special advisor of the Foundation for Promotion of Music Industry and Culture (PROMIC). Chairman: April of 2001 thru April of 2005, Special Advisor: April of 2005 thru March of 2006. He was also a main board director of the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) from May of 2000 thru August of 2004.

Congratulatory Message on the Occasion of The 20th Tokyo International Film Festival


This year the Tokyo International Film Festival marked its 20th occasion since its inception in Shibuya, Tokyo, in 1985. A number of congratulatory messages have been sent in by film industry participants and followers from around the world who have had associations with TIFF, including previous juries and Grand Prix winning directors. These messages were carried in the official program as well as the daily news that was distributed during the festival season. As these proved to be very popular, other congratulatory messages that were not included in the papers are shown on this site. We would like to thank all these people for their generous support. We will continue our endeavors to create a film festival that will meet the expectations of people from various walks of life. Please look forward to next year's festival.
