TIFF screens with Green Power

The 21st Tokyo International Film Festival made it’s engagement with Energy Green, Inc. and TOHO Cinemas to utilize green power for all screenings during the festival held from Oct. 18 (Sat) to 26 (Sun) at TOHO Cinemas in Roppongi Hills and other venues. The entire green power required for the screenings will be purchased from Energy Green by the use of Green Power Certificates.

*Green Power: It is electricity generated by eco-friendly energies such as sunlight and wind.
*The purchase of Green Power Certificate is considered as using green electricity.

Approximately 23 tons of CO2 will be reduced by purchasing 49,000 kWh of wind-generated Green Power Certificate from Energy Green.*1 This is equivalent to the electricity consumed by 3,200 average households per day.*2

*1 The emission coefficient (0.479kg-CO2/kWh) of Hokkaido Electric Power, which has the green power plant, in fiscal 2006 was used to calculate CO2 reduction.
*2 Electricity consumed by an average household was calculated as 15 kWh.

The Ishikari Citizen Windmill generates green power for TIFF. The Citizen Windmill was built by civic investment in Ishikari City, Hokkaido.
The Ishikari Citizen Windmill is the fourth of its kind in Japan.

The 119m-high windmill is called “Kazeru-chan” by local schoolchildren.

We are extremely surprised with the untimely passing of Mr. Jun Ichikawa and offer our sincere mourning for his death. The director, Mr. Ichikawa's new film, buy a suit will screen at the Japanese Eyes section of our main program this year. Mr. Ichikawa created this film with the use of HD Cam in the manner of self produced film. He was known as the director of various masterpieces as such as The Tokyo Siblings, Tokyo Lullaby and Toni Takitani, just to name but a few. His films enjoyed the well deserved reputation from the film festivals of the world. He has returned to his cinematic origin with his film, buy a suit.

Mr. Ichikawa's latest film will also be his posthumous work and the Tokyo International Film Festival will succeed his ardor and enthusiasm for the Japanese films.
